High-Level Joint Conference on Governance, Critical Minerals and Conflict in Africa

July 27 @ 12:00 am - July 29 @ 12:00 am

27th – 29th July, 2026
Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City
Accra, Ghana

Africa stands at the centre of the global transition to green energy and digital technologies, with the continent holding some of the world’s most important reserves of critical minerals. While these resources present significant opportunities for economic growth, industrial development and regional integration, they also raise important questions about governance, peace, accountability, community rights and equitable development.

As global demand for critical minerals grows, the choices made today will determine whether this opportunity delivers shared prosperity and sustainable development or deepens existing inequalities and conflict.

Hosted by the Open Society Foundations, the High-Level Conference on Governance, Critical Minerals and Conflict in Africa will bring together policymakers, civil society leaders, researchers, private sector representatives, peacebuilders and development partners to examine the links between critical minerals, governance and conflict, while exploring opportunities for greater value addition, community participation, regional cooperation and African-led solutions.

By convening diverse stakeholders, the conference aims to advance a shared vision for people-centred, rights-based and inclusive mineral governance, while providing a platform for African voices to help shape regional and global conversations on the future of the sector.

Your expertise would be highly valuable in shaping a people-centred agenda. OSF will cover economy airfare, accommodation, local transport and conference costs.

Please confirm if you are interested and available to attend the conference. Programme and logistical details will follow upon confirmation of attendance.
